The Problem

Business Challenge

SiteSutra set out to give construction businesses a single system to manage their projects and sites. The challenge was to create something comprehensive enough to be useful to project managers and owners, yet simple enough that site supervisors would actually keep it up to date.

A site management product has to bridge the field and the office. If the information from the site is late or incomplete, the office view is unreliable; if the office tool is complicated, site staff will avoid it. The design therefore had to put ease of daily updates ahead of feature count.

Industry Context

The Business Landscape Behind SiteSutra

Construction is a business of moving parts. A single project involves multiple sites or phases, materials arriving on different days, labour in varying numbers, subcontractors, drawings that change and clients who want to know how things are progressing. The people responsible for it often work in the field, with limited time at a desk, and the information they need is spread across notebooks, messages and phone calls.

Studies of the industry have long pointed to coordination and information handling as persistent sources of delay and cost overrun. When site records are incomplete, it is hard to know what has been used, what is left and what has been paid for. When progress is reported informally, head office learns about problems late.

Digital site management addresses this by giving projects a structured record: what is planned, what is happening, what has been spent and what remains. The tools that work best are those that site teams will actually use, which means they must be clear and fast to update, even on a phone.

The Solution

What We Built: Modules & Features

Project & Site Management

Projects and their sites are set up with the key details, giving every other record a home. Owners can see their portfolio of projects and drill into any site.

Daily Site Records

Supervisors record day-to-day activity, so that what happened on site is documented as it happens rather than reconstructed later. This creates a reliable diary that is valuable for progress reviews and for resolving disputes.

Materials Tracking

Materials received and used are recorded against projects and sites. Teams can see what has arrived and what has been consumed, which supports ordering decisions and helps to catch discrepancies early.

Labour Records

Labour on site is recorded, giving managers a view of manpower and a record to support payment and planning.

Progress Monitoring

Progress is tracked against the plan, so managers and owners can see where each site stands and identify delays early enough to act.

Issues & Notes

Problems, instructions and observations are recorded in context, so that nothing depends on a verbal message that may be forgotten.

Our Process

Discovery, Design & Development

SiteSutra was designed from the field upward. We started with what a site supervisor does in a day and what a project manager asks them for, and worked back to the minimum data that gives head office a trustworthy picture. This kept the product practical.

The structure follows the way construction work is organised: a company has projects, projects have sites or phases, and each site accumulates records of activity, materials, labour and issues. Because everything is anchored to a site, reports at any level, from one site to the whole portfolio, can be built from the same data.

Usability was treated as a core requirement. Screens are clean, forms are short, and the most frequent updates take only a few moments. We also made a deliberate effort on identity: the SiteSutra logo and visual style were created to feel dependable and professional, in keeping with the construction setting.

How It Works

A Day in the Life of the System

A manager creates a project and its sites. Supervisors record daily activity, materials received and used, and labour present. As records accumulate, the project's progress and consumption can be reviewed at site or project level.

Head office sees an up-to-date view without waiting for a report, and site teams have a straightforward way to log what matters. Over time the system becomes a project history that supports planning for the next job.

The Result

Business Impact

SiteSutra gives construction businesses a structured system for managing projects, sites, materials, labour and progress. Site information is captured in a consistent format, and head office can follow progress without relying on scattered messages.

As a product, SiteSutra is a foundation: its clear data structure allows additional features such as cost tracking, subcontractor management and reporting to be added. We make no performance claims we cannot support; the value lies in organised information and the visibility it creates.
